| I don't really care if the court tried him for manslaughter or murder or daylight robbery. Hattie Carroll was a servant and as such was denied the most basic of human rights anyway. She gave birth to ten children who I would much prefer to break bread with than Zantzinger and his wealthy family. |

| redsox9976 I was only commenting on the song as I heard it on youtube. As i would any work of art, I would allow, so to speak, the artist room for poetic license. He may have "milked it" as you say in a earlier comment. But the truth is Hattie Carroll died and he: Zantzinger was in some way to blame. His sentence was way too light. As you agreed yourself. Maybe the song stands as a metaphor for all black people of the 60's - "Who were killed for no reason" You can see it that way too. |

| I think zantzinger got off easy, he should have been in jail for much longer I am just saying that dylan's song while poetic is somewhat inaccurate in its report of events. I understand that it is just artistic expression but I was simply clarifying for any unsure viewers who got the impression that she was beaten to death. |
