Hitchens misses it. SIN is the poison and the problem. "Our current episode has more in common with the 1870s depression which, as Nelson notes, was considerably worse. It was primarily caused by over-indebtedness in the commercial real estate sector, which mortgages were based on new forms of financing which were intermingled on the balance sheets of commercial banks with less rarefied assets that the banks added by making business loans." Seek shelter in Christ... ..Eternal hope. :-)

Oh and water expands because hydrogen is what bonds water together and when water is cooler there is less energy to knock these bonds apart hydrogen is what gives ice its crystalline structure.

the FIRST thing Boteach does is resort to ad hominem... funny.

dude. i dont care. its very tiresome that you think this is some huge mistake with my form of raa. the argument is just circular thats all there is to it. the reason raa doesnt look like regular form here is because THE ARGUMENT IS CIRCULAR. the alternate hypothesis to the conclusion (not-G) i want to reach IS posited. the contradiction is that the first assumption is G. so obviously not-not-G. therefore G. this is exasperating. why wouldnt you just say, "your argument is circular"?

most sane people see that the greatest problem confronting civilization is not merely religious extremism: it is the larger set of cultural and intellectual accommodations we have made to faith itself. Religious moderates are, in large part, responsible for the religious conflict in our world, because their beliefs provide the context in which scriptural literalism and religious violence can never be adequately opposed. boteach is just as responsible as any cleric else where.

You're really struggling with this so I'll give you a more definitive answer. Look up Euclid's proof for the infinitude of primes or the proof that square root of 2 is irrational. Those are the two most famous and classic uses of RAA and are easily available online. In RAA, the alternate hypothesis is posited. And then conclusions are drawn from that hypothesis to show that a contradiction is reached independent of the theorem to be proven.
