During debate on the binding Iraq-withdrawal bill that would require George W. Bush to withdraw all U.S. troops from Iraq within one year, Joe Biden rips Republicans for standing by Bush's horrible course.

| I heard a diplomat on public radio, I just caught his first name, Peter. He suggested dividing Iraq into 3 countries for the Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds, because when they're together, they kill each other. That is a splendid idea!
From reading the posts, I see a lot of either or thinking. Seriously, I see a lot of people whose conceptual framework is too small to encompass anything than more war or leave right now.
It's refreshing that Joe Biden is wiser and has compassion for the troops. |

| so you think we should have just pulled out? and let the Iraqis sort it out? And what do you do when Turkey invades the Kurds in the north, Iranian tanks are in Bagdad ?
democrats voted for it, and it is all most over the surge has worked and Iraq is taking care of thier own more and more. |

| and biden has buried someone from this war?
and yes he agreed to this war and in fact said it would take 10 years. so you think its ok to cut and run half way thru. when he knew it was going to take 10 years.
and the surge has worked when he claimed it would not. and My daughter is in the army. |

| 1. In case you didnt hear the news, Saddam is dead; mission accomplished. 2. Prevent Sunnis/Shiites civil war? why in the hell would you wanna do that? Let them kill each other off, so there is less of them to deal with later. I am a christian from an arab country. That is the ONLY way to keep islamic extremism "occupied". 3. Prevent another attack on america? Do you believe in Santa Claus too? |

| Well put.
Of course Biden can protest against failed policy in Iraq after the invasion without compromising his integrity. The decision to go in and what is done afterwards are, patently, two different issues.
Capitol Hill voted to give Bush's administration the authority to invade, not for the debacle that followed.
Only the president is accountable for the latter. |

| "So he should NOT be complaining about anything pertinent to the Iraq War."
So what you are saying is that he agreed to the war, therefore he HAS to accept all the BS that has followed? Can you sit there and honestly say things in Iraq are going swimmingly?
Can you sit there and be fine with having "kids" in the military that can barely go out and buy alcohol that have already been to Iraq more than twice?
Wait until you have to bury someone from this war, then talk here. |

| I think I understand Biden's frustration towards the Bush administration. I feel slightly ambivalent about the Iraq War because:
1. Uncle Sam has spent $600 billion and more than 4,000 of our troops have sacrificed their lives in Iraq since 2003. How much longer does John McCain think that we can afford to have military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan??
2. Why should we continue to babysit the Iraqi government? |
|
zucchini2007 (October 6, 2008 at 8:47 pm) |
| Joe Biden himself said in 2002 that Saddam Hussein posed a serious threat to America's national security and that we had no option but to eliminate that threat. So he should NOT be complaining about anything pertinent to the Iraq War. We are over there because:
1. The Iraqi government needs to become more stabilized.
2. To prevent an Iraqi civil war from erupting between the Sunnis and Shiites.
3. To prevent another major terrorist attack on American soil. |
