| This part was always my favorite in the movie cause of the way Kubrick told the story in the film, he was ambiguous and tried to let the movie tell the story in it's own thoughtful and cerebral way. You knew Dave was going into another time and dimension but what it was you didn't know, and that was the cool part of this movie cause the mystery made it even more awesome. |

| I don't understand how anyone could watch this more than once, I barely even got through that. It just drags on showing you nothing... It really is incredibly over hyped. |

| I don't think it's absolutely necessary to read the books to understand what's going on. Watch it a couple times and you'll start to get it. I do wish Kubrick had been a bit more clear in this, but it's usually his artistic nature to be ambiguous. |

| The monolith actually opened up a portal for Dave to the place where the higher beings take alien civilizations to be converted into a higher form of life. It's really quite an amazing story, you should read the books. Clarke is a fucking genius. |
