This video shows how chiropractic adjustments are performed by Dr. Stephen R. Gunter, DC. It is an actual office visit and was posted for educational purposes and to promote dialogue. For those interested in this field, this is a great video to observe. If there are questions, Dr. Gunter will check in to answer.
Frequently asked question:
"What was that clicky thing he was pushing on him? He does it at 4:26"
Answer by Dr. Gunter (BackCarePlus)
"This is clearly the most common question I get. That is an adjusting instrument called an Activator. It is spring loaded for rapid delivery of a force to move one vertebra at a time and has some advantages (and disadvantages, too) compared to traditional manual techniques. This treatment sequence shows several distinct methods of correction, and I commonly combine them in the manner shown, although there are times that one single method may be more desirable on a given treatment session." |

You make some very good points. Having survived peritonitis with the help of surgery and antibiotics was humbling and educational. And my need for pain meds during my 16 days in hospital was greatly reduced on the days I had adjustments "smuggled" into the hospital. Similarly, trauma patients I see are often still needing care that guides and enhances their capacity to heal and truly recover. I hate hearing about the injury from a MVA six years ago that never got completely better. Unnecessary.

True medicine is about opening yourself and loving/caring/taking the time for your patient. Granted, I know very little about the chiropractic field yet what Dr. Gunter is doing by being thorough and professional, is great practice. I've seen my share of patients pass on but those who can make it beyond the Emergency Department who need extra care (say from a motor vehicle accident) I hope can get that specialized care from a compassionate, efficient doctor or therapist

As a pre-med student and EMT, I am going to defend my desired field and Dr. Gunter respective field. I agree, medicine is too high and too commercialized. But there isn't one way to do something. Constant disrespect for the chiropractic field is ridiculous. On the other hand, saying that all medical dr. are money suckers and bloody killers is just as ridiculous. I care deeply about my patients when I'm on my ambulance and I work hard for all of them. Still, bad apples exist everywhere.

Thanks for the response. I should point out that while I'm supportive of the chiropractic concept it does seem that there are those clinics that want to get you in and out as soon as possible. I think that I'm going to show my chiropractor this vid if no other reason than to get his impression. I'm a little tired of being shown the door after a quick neck and back crack. Of course they always want to check my insurance every time I walk through the door. You seem to be going the extra mile !

This patient was actually in for a once every three months checkup, having already experienced good correction of previous issues.
