The Stop the Violence Movement was formed by rapper KRS-One.
During a Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy concert, a young fan was killed in a fight; galvanized into action, KRS-One founded the Stop the Violence Movement. Comprised of some of the biggest stars in contemporary East Coast hip-hop, the movement released a single ('Self Destruction') in 1989 with all proceeds going to the National Urban League. |

| Great memory. I remember doing shit like that too. I remember recording nwa's express yourself video off the tv on to a little tape recorder because it was a different version than the album - with the ice cube verse. Obviously I didn't know about the 12 inch. I doubt kids are recording much off the tv nowadays. |

| Yo, this was on my first hip hop tape I put together myself. 89 was also the year. Like yourself I aslo miss these days, and know this one off by heart. This is the first time I heard this track in over a decade and still know it!! |

| This was the first song that REALLY got me into hip hop. I remembered being that 15 year-old kid with a tape recorder holding it next to the TV so when this Video came on I recorded it. Poor qualitiy though but I've played that tape untill it WORE OUT! My brother's messed it up with his comment "Whoo, that's cold!" when Kool Moe Dee said that he "shouldn't have to run from a black man". |
