| You want your kick drums to live in the frequency range between 75hz and maybe 100-120hz. Any thing lower than 75hz isn't really necessary. The trick is making sure all of your sounds play nice together in different areas of the frequency spectrum. My advice to any aspiring producer is to study basic engineering and keep aspiring for greatness. The Great Ones all have truckloads worth of crap hidden away before they started making hits. |

| It's really important for producers to have either basic or intermediate engineering knowledge. Quick tip when working with hiphop kicks (especially 808's). Bass sounds are real bullies and would love to take over a song if you let them. I'm sure you've all experienced either hearing a track or making a track and every time the kick comes in, the whole song drops by like several decibels. It all starts in the EQ. |
