| This movement has always troubled me...it demands a temperament at once superbly refined and savagely discontent. Performances of it, despite being very moving, never seem quite capable of conveying the Beethovenian art--that is, two extremes tempered into an incredibly rich and singular sensation. Kempff still does a very good job, yet I tend to favor the interpretation given by Horowitz for this movement. :) |
