オオカマキリ♀飼育個 が2回目の産卵を始めた（前回の産卵から17日後、交尾から16日後）。所要時間は約2時間半。前回の反省（手ぶれ）を生かし、途中からカメラを固定して撮影した。
Sixteen days after mating and seventeen days after her previous oviposition, my pet Chinese mantis (Tenodera aridifolia) began to lay eggs again. The labor lasted for ~2.5 hrs. This video clip was recorded by a digital camera fixed on a tripod and shown here at 10x high-speed replay. Late-October, 2006 in Japan.

In northern parts of Japan, there has been an old saying that the higer mantids lay eggs, the heavier it snows in coming winter. Mantids are said to be able to forecast the amount of snowfall to keep eggs from being buried.
Has anyone of you heard of that sort of folklore in your country? |
