THE WAR, a seven-part series directed and produced by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, tells the story of the Second World War through the personal accounts of a handful of men and women from four quintessentially American towns.
This exclusive, revelatory "first look" at THE WAR and its creation provides excerpts from the series, insights from the on-screen participants, behind-the-scenes looks at the production and thoughts from co-producers Ken Burns and Lynn Novick on the critical importance of creating this series at this time.
During the preview, you'll see some of the work that went into making the seven-part documentary about World War II. Excerpts are introduced by interview footage of the filmmakers or participants in the film.

| this was just broadcasted in finnish television during summer months. i watched every episode, and IMO this is the best series ever made. Finland was fighting on an opposing side of USA from 1941, although they didnt have any operations upon each other. |

| I am half russian and I deeply admire my Grandmother's bravery when she grew up in Kiev. This war changed everything, and it still affects us to this day. |

| To me the best opening to this documentary is episode 2.When they read the editorial of the Septemper 23, 1943 issue of LIFE Magazine.I cry so much when I read it.I believe every American should read it because it makes you think how lucky we are today. |

| The real thing of war ios getting yourself down there killing or being killed yourself. Without Barely escaping.

| There was a division of Mexican-Americans in World War II, The 88 Division or the "Blue Devils". I think they won 27 Medals of Honor. |

| Thanks for makes this film! They were truly was the best the generation that ever lived. God belss them all! Some gave all, but all gave some! Thank you to all WWII vets. From a counrty that should never forget, but I fear will! God bless the USA and help us right the ship before we sink. |
