I would suggest ceramic containers with high refractive content. Look on the web.

I am thinking one average size lens from a old big screen tv to heat maybe two gallons of salt for a engine of yours size. I wonder where I might get containers that could withstand the heat from the lens. One lense burns through brick.

Multiple cylinders take the place of double acting cylinders less the crosshead and the stuffing box which has side forces. The reciprocating mass is many times less than the old engines and the heat loss is way less. My engine doesn't use lubricant that fowls the boiler. The distilled water is after it has produced power. The distilled water direct from the boiler has produced no rotary power.

Many people are using solar for this engine. The salt idea is a very good idea. The lense would need to be fairly large.

What about using solar to create steam and maybe a tank of molten salt(500 to 1100 degrees) to power the engine after the sun goes down? This coupled with Charles Shults frennel lense solar collector may be a plan for home electricity generation.

Interesting design. Though I think you should compare it with traditional double-acting steam engine designs, which also don't put side loads on the pistons, and get two power strokes out of each revolution, unlike your single-acting design which only produces power half the time. Also, to say that the exhaust is distilled water means nothing, because the exhaust that matters comes from the boiler and not the engine, and that could be burning practically anything from coal to hydrogen.

What's the material of the cylinders in the three cylinder engine?
|
chezgreens (March 25, 2008 at 3:19 pm) |
Yes, considerably more efficient because it eliminates side forces that cause friction and reduces the number of bearings and moving parts.

Several flex shaft manufacturers.
