| Veterans' groups really praised this song when it came out.
Billy Joel simply wasn't drafted and although he'd never seen action in Vietnam, many vets said that this song was a great protrayal.
I saw him do this on the Nylon Curtain tour (Madison Sq Garden, New Years Eve 1982). When the roadies got on stage (dressed like your average Joes), gathered around 1 mic and joined him in the chorus, it gave you a chill.
I could have sworn I'd seen a couple folks cry. |
