(HC-CDG)A Fokker F-28 taking-off runway 17 in Quito, Ecuador. Field elevation is 9,228ft. Captain was fighting some pretty good turbulence on takeoff which is no wonder given the fact that the airport is surrounded by mountains!

| Ok. Well, now your just splitting hairs. Wouldn't you say that wind shear is indeed a kind/form of turbulence? Turbulence/wind shear is worst close to the ground because of ground objects interfering with the natural flow of air. It's called surface friction. It's the same as if you but a boulder in the middle of a free flowing stream. The water going around the boulder becomes turbulent because of the interference of the boulder with the otherwise smooth flowing water. |

| actually turbulence is not a problem near the ground. Turbulence is merely wind. Now...Wind shear is very dangerous near the ground. |
