I see what you mean. I'm no speed freak either. I would never want a sportbike. I just like single cylinder and v-twin bikes. I've got a little Yamaha XT225, and it handles great. It's really fun to ride even though it doesn't go over 55mph very well. You're right, though, the weight of some big bikes is a bit ridiculous, and the power definitely scared me the first time I rode a fast one. Very dangerous until you learn to expect the power.

No, I never have. I'm intimidated by the power and weight...and cost. I'm old enough that high speeds are not a fascination to me anymore. I'm more into economy, simplicity, and especially good fuel economy. I understand many love those large bikes. My car is a Toyota Corolla, and I could afford any sports car, but opt instead for the same factors. VStar 250 is kind of analogous to the Corolla. I think of the Harley as analogous to a Mercedes Benz. Great bike, but not for me.

Have you ever ridden a big bike? You probably wouldn't want your car at all anymore. Even the entry-level Harley-Davidson Sportsters can accelerate roughly as fast as a Corvette. Besides, it's the handling that really makes bikes fun.

Not gear driven cams. A chain is still the primary drive for the cams. Exhaust cam is driven by gear from inlet cam.

The V star 250 (aka Virago) is the best bike in this series. Half the cost, much better mileage, lower insurance, lower maintenance costs, and it goes fast enough for the interstate if you stay in the right-hand lane. If I want to go fast, I'll drive my car.
