This is an isolation exercise ,you might be going to heavy . Lighten up and concentrate more on the contraction and form.

You are refering to your traps. They are worked direcly by doing shrugs and dead lifts. Uprights also help. For all the detail look into my e-book at musclemaximization(dot)com
